I have a question about my brain.

Specifically, what the hell is it doing with all of its storage space?

Let me back up.

I listen to 80s on 8 on SiriusXM all the time. And every time a song comes on I’ll just start singing along, word for word, without even thinking about it.

Not just the chorus. EVERY. SINGLE. WORD.

Then I'll look at the screen and see what year the song came out.

1983

And I'll think... WAIT. I WAS 7.

SEVEN YEARS OLD. How the hell did seven-year-old me know every word to this song?

And perhaps the more concerning question, how do I still know every single word 43 years later???

We didn't have Spotify back then. We couldn't pull up any song we wanted to hear whenever we wanted to. There was no asking Alexa to play your favorite song 47 times in a row. And there was definitely no way you could look up the lyrics.

You had the radio, whatever records or cassette tapes were in your house, and MTV (assuming your parents let you watch it).

And somehow my seven-year-old brain heard these songs enough times that it was like...

THIS IS IMPORTANT INFORMATION. WE WILL BE KEEPING THIS FOREVER.

Which would be fine if my brain weren't simultaneously throwing away information I actually need on a DAILY BASIS.

I walk into a room and have absolutely no idea why I'm there. I open my phone to do something and forget what I was doing while looking at the phone. I spend five minutes looking for my glasses while they are on my head.

But play the first four notes of a song I haven't heard since the Reagan administration and my brain is like - “Oh, this is MY jam!”

And it's not just music. I can still remember the phone number of the house I grew up in. I know commercial jingles for products I haven't seen in 35 years.

There are television theme songs permanently lodged in my brain from shows I haven't watched since I had a perm. (You take the good, you take the bad, you take them both and there you have The Facts of Life!)

There are movie lines I could deliver with perfect timing.

But the password I created yesterday? Absolutely NO clue!

It seems my brain has a filing system, but no one has explained it to me.

So, I've started wondering what other completely unnecessary information is just sitting up there, taking up valuable real estate?

So this week, I don't have a networking lesson for you. I have a question.

What's taking up completely unnecessary permanent real estate in YOUR brain?

What song can you still sing every single word to?

What phone number will apparently be with you until death?

What commercial jingle could you perform RIGHT NOW even though the company that made it may no longer exist?

Hit reply and tell me.

Because apparently my brain has decided that a significant percentage of its available storage should be allocated to 80s song lyrics.

P.S. For those of you who have donated to my Race For Impact fundraiser THANK YOU! We have already raised $425 dollars, meaning together we have helped 2,125 animals.

If you haven't donated and would still like to the QR code is below and every little bit helps, even $1.

I'm happy to say I ran not one but TWO simulations last week and I felt strong and ready for this challenge! This was after Thursdays simulation!
